So it finally happened! We have bought a 2nd hand electric vehicle, and we couldn't be happier!

When I first started the journey of this Youtube channel I made a video called 'make it count', trying to talk through how we should prioritise climate action the UK by accounting for our emissions pragmatically, not focussing on perfection but understanding the areas that have the biggest impact. In 2020, for us, that looked like our heating system, then our petrol car, then our electricity use.

We installed a heat pump in 2021, but for the last 3 or 4 years, our petrol car has been chugging away, emitting around 2 tonnes a year. Well no longer! Reducing those emissions could look like stopping driving, but, using public transport, bikes and feet to get around. For a few reasons, visiting family, our outdoorsy lifestyle and fairly poor public transport in Durham, it feels like we would still want to use a car. Going electric is a way we can significantly reduce emissions for our transport.

An electric car, even when there is still some fossil fuel generation on the grid, would reduce emissions by about 70% versus a petrol car, it could be cheaper to run, and, being 6/7 years newer, is much more fun to drive.

So, we have taken the plunge. In this video I talk through how we got here, the reasons why we have gone electric, and gone 2nd hand, and reveal the car that we have bought

I am pleased, and relieved, to get rid of another chunk of fossil fuels in our day to day.
