Parasnath Hills is a range of hills located in the Giridih district of Jharkhand. The highest peak is 1350 meters. It is one of the most important pilgrimage centre for Jains. They call it the Sammed peak. The hill has been named Parasnath after the 23rd Tirthankara. 20 Jain Tirthankaras attained salvation on this hill. There is a temple (gumti or tuk) on the hill for each of them. Some of the temples on the hill are believed to be over 2,000 years old. Though the place has remained since ancient times, the temples may have a recent origin. Santhals call this deity Marang Buru of the hill. They celebrate a hunting festival on the full moon day in Baisakh (mid-April).
