A GROUP of Labour MPs are expected to break away from the party today in protest at Jeremy Corbyn's leadership.

The centrist rebels are furious at the party leader's record on anti-Semitism and Brexit.

Labour MPs have been divided in their response to rumours of a split.

Corbynista Lloyd Russell-Moyle dubbed the rebels “cowards” and said they should quit Parliament to trigger a by-election.

He blasted: “Any Pro-EU MP that resigns to form a new party will be aiding Brexit by reducing the Pro-EU voices in the party.”

But Shadow Treasury Minister Jonathan Reynolds took a softer line, saying: “Hope colleagues stay with us. Very sad if that isn’t the case.

“If it does happen, I hope I treat all people with civility and respect and this would be no different.”

A group of Labour MPs led by Chuka Umunna are holding a press conference in Central London from 10am.

They're expected to announce they are quitting the party – and could set up a new centrist grouping instead.

As well as Mr Umunna, those involved are rumoured to include Chris Leslie, Luciana Berger and Angela Smith.

The group are furious at Jeremy Corbyn’s failure to get a grip on the anti-Semitism crisis or publicly campaign for a second referendum.
