Rolls Royce introduced the Starlight Headliner in 2007 to the Rolls Royce Phantom. It was not actually created by Rolls-Royce. It was a bespoke order for a driver with photophobia. He said he would read the newspaper by star light because it wouldn't bother his eyes. Using fiber optics Rolls installed thin spaghetti-like strands that would disperse the light through pin holes though the roof, giving the perception of a star field. It was so well liked that Rolls Royce asked if they could offer it to customers. The buyer agreed and it became a hugely popular item that defines many of the top Rolls Royce models today. The first only had 800 lights, while today it's closer to 2,000 strands of light. It became so popular that aftermarket car companies began to offer it with great results.
