Today let’s paint some happy little trees - a whole forest of them!
This painting is really easy, and a great painting for someone learning watercolour to try! The focus of this piece is using the different hues that can be gained from a watercolour. This forest is built up in layers, starting with a lunar blue (or grey) wash, with a sprinkle of salt for some texture (a fun optional step!). Then a very dilute green is used to place the furthest trees, building up the layers with a slightly thicker/less watered down green each layer.
Finally, mix the blue-grey and the green for the darkest colour, with only a little bit of water, to do the darkest and final layer.
This piece practices the fundamentals of watercolour, building from light to dark gradually. Take your time and let each layer dry!
Have fun – and let me know what you think!
