Описание к видео Road trip to 'The Forgotten Highway' (SH43), New Zealand /Whangamomona Hotel/Moki Tunnel

We took a road trip down the State Highway 43 also known as the Forgotten World Highway. It is a 150 kilometre highway between Stratford and Taumarunui. The Forgotten World Highway is off-the-beaten track and a gateway to the peaceful rural countryside.

Along the highway we drove on narrow and windy road, some with sharp turns and passed over three saddles. The scenic landscape of the untamed native bush was amazing.

We stopped by at the iconic Whangamomona Hotel, for a late lunch. According to history, in Whangamomona would like to continue to be a part of the Taranaki Region. However, when the boundaries were redrawn Whangamomona was made a part of the Manawatu-Whanganui Region. Frustrated by the Council, this quaint little town declared themselves the ‘Republic of Whangamomona.’ We were looking forward to a nice meal, unfortunately the kitchen closed just before 2pm. We were disappointed but also hungry, so we opted for a sandwich and mince pie.

The drive from Whangamomona to Taumarunui involved travelling through a tunnel and a long stretch of unsealed road. If you are planning to drive on this highway, be sure to fill up with gas because there are no petrol stations on this road.
