ELAFONISI (CRETE'S PINK SAND BEACH)

Elafonisi Beach is famous for its pink sand and stunningly beautiful water. It is one of the most amazing beaches in Greece. In this vlog, we travel from Chania to spend a day enjoying Elafonisi.

Before reaching Elafonisi Beach, we made a quick stop at Chrysoskalitissa Monastery.

Elafonisi Beach (ελαφονησι)
The journey from Chania to Elafonisi Beach was about an hour and a half. It's located on the Mediterranean island of Crete on the southwest coast. The parking at the beach is free. Elafonisi is famous for its pink sand. The pink color of the sand comes from crushed red and pink shells. Visitors are not allowed to take the sand. The beach had sun loungers and umbrellas. The day we visited Elafonisi it was not crowded, so it felt like we had the whole place to ourselves.

The day before visiting Elafonisi, we visited Balos Beach. Both beaches are fantastic and if you have the visit both of them. Balos is more difficult to get to, but the views from the hike are gorgeous.
