Tsurinoya DARK WOLF ULTRA brake mod fix issue Part 2(read description before performing)

Update(November 3, 2022): if you own a LH DWU please go watch Paul Gaskell’s video which explains how the FTB system actually works and why the non-mirrored LH reels from China are somewhat handicapped. At this point if you have a static LH DWU I would recommend just keeping the reel as it is and not performing the spring upgrade. There isn’t a big difference in performance either way but you will save yourself some time and money. Please find a link to Dr. Gaskell’s video below:

Update(October 26, 2022): If you own a Left Handed Static version of this reel performing the dynamic reversion mod may make the overall strength of the magnets weaker. Due to the design oversight where the brake system was not mirrored and instead a Right Handed design was simply copied this causes the Left Handed brake shoes to move inwards towards the spool shaft when the spool rotates in the direction of the lure being cast. I will have a future video on this phenomenon and can hopefully explain what is happening.


Update(September 8, 2022): The static brakes will work well. Tsurinoya has increased the magnet strength and so this modification is not absolutely necessary but, imho, is still worth it if you are capable and willing to do it. As of today, the springs will not be available until ETA: 2023/02/25

PSA regarding the Tsurinoya Dark Wolf Ultra braking system. I recently purchased this reel from AliExpress and while doing a tear down of it, I noticed that the braking system wasn’t working as intended. In this video, I go over what the fix is if you encounter this problem and show the part number you need to order from Shimano to fix it.
