കുട്ടികൾക്ക് കഥ പറഞ്ഞു കൊടുക്കുന്ന കഥാ സമാഹാരത്തിൽ ഇന്ന് വിഷ്ണു , വാമന അവതാരം എടുക്കാനുണ്ടായ കാരണ കഥയാണ് പറയുന്നത്.

അസുര ചക്രവർത്തിയായ മഹാബലി ദേവന്മാരെ തോൽപ്പിച്ച് മൂന്നു ലോകങ്ങളും തന്റെ അധീനതയിലാക്കി . തന്റെ ഭരണ മികവ് കൊണ്ട് ഭൂമിയിലെ പ്രജകൾക്ക് വളരെ മികച്ച ജീവിതവും മഹാബലി സമ്മാനിച്ചു. നിരാശരായ ദേവന്മാർ മാതാവായ അദിതിയെ കണ്ടു വ്യസനം അറിയിച്ചു , ശേഷം അദിതിയും കശ്യപനും ദേവന്മാരും ബ്രഹ്മനിര്ദേശപ്രകാരം വിഷ്ണുവിനെ തപസ്സു ചെയ്തു പ്രസാദിപ്പിച്ചു് ,വിഷ്ണു അദിതി - കശ്യപ പുത്രനായി പിറന്ന് തങ്ങളുടെ സങ്കട നിവൃത്തി വരുത്തിത്തരണമെന്ന് വരം വാങ്ങി . വര ഫലമായി വിഷ്ണു അദിതി പുത്രനായി വാമന രൂപത്തിൽ അവതാരമെടുക്കുകയും മഹാബലിയുടെ യാഗഭൂമിയിലെത്തി മൂന്നടി മണ്ണ് ദാനം ചോദിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു . മഹാബലി ദാനകർമം നടത്തിയ ഉടനെ വാമനൻ ഭീമാകാരനായി വളരുകയും രണ്ട് അടി വച്ച് മൂന്നു ലോകങ്ങളും അളക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു . മൂന്നാമത്തെ അടി വയ്ക്കാൻ സ്ഥലം ചോദിച്ചപ്പോൾ മഹാബലി തന്റെ തലയിൽ വച്ചോളാൻ പറഞ്ഞു . അങ്ങിനെ മഹാബലിയിൽ നിന്നും മൂന്നു ലോകങ്ങളും അളന്നു വാങ്ങിയ വിഷ്ണു , മഹാബലിക്കു അമരത്വവും നൽകി , ശിഷ്ടകാലം അസുരഗണങ്ങളോട് കൂടി പാതാളലോകമായ സുതലത്തിൽ പോയ്‌ കഴിഞ്ഞുകൊല്ലാൻ പറഞ്ഞു . മഹാബലിയുടെ അവശ്യ പ്രകാരം തന്റെ വാമന അവതാര ജന്മ ദിനമായ ചിങ്ങമാസത്തിലെ തിരുവോണ നക്ഷത്രത്തിൽ ഭൂമിയിലെ പ്രജകളെ സന്ദർശിക്കുവാനും വിഷ്ണു മഹാബലിക്ക് അനുവാദവും നൽകി

Today, the story of Vishnu's 5th incarnations as vamana is told in the collection of stories told to children..

The demon emperor Mahabali defeated the gods and took the three worlds under his control. Mahabali also gave a very good life to the subjects of the earth with his administrative excellence.The disappointed gods met their mother Aditi and expressed their sorrow, after which Aditi, Kashyapa and the gods please Vishnu by performing austerities as instructed by Brahma, and obtain a boon that Vishnu will be born as the son of Aditi-Kashyapa and fulfill their sorrow. As a result, Vishnu incarnated as Vamana as Aditi's son and came to Mahabali's sacrificial ground and asked for a donation of three feet of soil. On donation , Vamana immediately grew into a giant and measured the three worlds with two feet. When Mahabali asked where to put the third blow, Mahabali told him to put it on his head. Thus, Vishnu, who measured the three worlds from Mahabali, gave Mahabali immortality and told him to go to Suthalam, the underworld, with the demons for the rest of his life. As required by Mahabali, Vishnu also allowed Mahabali to visit the subjects of the earth in the Thiruvona Nakshatra of the month of Chingam , the birth day of his Vamana incarnation.
