India's first privately designed and developed orbital-class rocket has been unveiled.
The Indian government is trying to give a boost to the private sector involved in the space sector. Skyroot Aerospace, a rocket company based in the city, is preparing for the upcoming launch of its inaugural commercial rocket, named 'Vikram 1.' This seven-story rocket boasts a payload capacity of up to 300 kilograms and is scheduled for its maiden flight in the early part of the next year. It is an all-carbon-fiber-bodied rocket that can place multiple satellites into orbit and features 3D-printed liquid engines.
Founder and CEO Pawan Chandana revealed that numerous Indian and international satellite companies have expressed their interest in placing their nano or cube satellites on board for this mission.
Vikram-1 has been named after the father of India's space program Vikram Sarabhai.
Union Minister of Science and Technology, Jitendra Singh has also inaugurated 'The MAX-Q Campus', the new headquarters of the start-up at the GMR Aerospace and Industrial Park at Mamidipally in South Hyderabad.
