From growing up the son of Canada's prime minister to becoming a nightclub bouncer, then eventually following in his father's footsteps, Justin Trudeau has had a unique journey.
He was born on Christmas Day in 1971 in Ottawa while his father, Pierre Elliott Trudeau, was serving as Canada’s leader. When his parents divorced when he was six years old, he and his brothers went to live with their father.

Before he entered the world of politics, Trudeau held a variety of jobs, including teaching snowboarding and a gig as a bouncer at a nightclub. At 26, he graduated from college and began working as a teacher.

He married Sophie Grégoire, a television host, at 34. Three years later, he was elected to Canada’s Parliament for the first time. In 2013, he then became the leader of Canada's Liberal Party — two years after that, he was elected prime minister. At the time, he was known for being a progressive leader who championed women’s and LGBTQ rights.

His popularity has ebbed and flowed over his tenure leading Canada — with a low point coming when photos emerged of him in black face and brown face were revealed right before the 2019 federal election. Though the Liberal Party lost its majority on election day, he remained Canada's prime minister. This is his story so far.
