The town is most famously associated with Bram Stoker's novel Dracula, and you can explore its Gothic atmosphere by climbing the 199 steps to the dramatic ruins of Whitby Abbey, which provided inspiration for the book. From the clifftop, you'll be treated to stunning panoramic views of the town, harbor, and the North Sea. The town's maritime heritage is also on full display, with attractions like the Captain Cook Memorial Museum located in the house where the legendary explorer apprenticed, and the iconic whalebone arch, a tribute to Whitby's past whaling industry.
