Описание к видео [SW] 9530 kHz - CNR1 jammer against VOA Tibetan - ringing in Chinese New Year 2024 🏮, Feb 9 2024

Chinese New Year, also known as Spring Festival, is, well, New Year in China (and a few other countries). China follows a Lunar calendar for some of their traditional festivities, and so it happened that February 10th, 2024 is the 1st day of Year of the Dragon.

And February 9th is Chinese New Year's Eve, which is marked by a huge annual show organized by Party-owned China Media Group. You can search for it using several phrases: the CMG Chinese New Year's Eve Gala, Spring Festival Gala, or using a popular Chinese acronym, "Chunwan".

The following video captures the moment of the arrival of New Year during the 2024 Chunwan, recorded from a strong shortwave signal of CNR-1 Voice of China - one of many used to jam "enemy stations", in this case, Voice of America in Tibetan. Quite bittersweet!

The jammer signed-on 3 minutes early, which was actually convenient as I was able to hear the Gala presenters giving their New Year wishes - although the Oblivion moment was "marred" by that pesty VOA 🙃

I was able to receive more legitimate broadcasts of CNR1 at the same time, but the signal was much weaker and, in fact, losing to winter nighttime absorption. They were better 30 minutes earlier!

The same broadcast was noted on a number of Chinese radio station on shortwave, mediumwave, as well as online. I haven't done a thorough SW check but the Spring Festival Gala coverage was noted on CNR-1, CNR-5, CNR-7 and Qinghai PBS. It wasn't aired on Xinjiang PBS (as I found on MW on a remote SDR), while Xizang PBS was unchecked.

Received at 15:57 UTC Friday Feb 9th, 2024 in NE Poland using Airspy HF+ Discovery and ~15x4.5m SuperLoop antenna beaming ~67deg.
