Welcome to Ascanio's KTM 1290 Super Adventure R ride from Bogota to Villa de Leyva! In this motovlog, we'll be taking you on an epic motorcycle touring journey through the stunning landscapes of Colombia.
Our round the world trip has taken us to some amazing places, but this ride through the Andes mountains was definitely one of the highlights. As we set out from Bogota, we knew we were in for a treat as we headed towards the Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá, a UNESCO World Heritage site located just outside the city.
The KTM 1290 Super Adventure R is the perfect motorcycle for this kind of trip, with its powerful engine and comfortable ride. As we navigated the winding roads through the mountains, we were constantly amazed by the stunning views all around us.
Welcome to the Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá, one of the most unique and fascinating attractions in Colombia. Located just outside of Bogotá, this underground cathedral is carved out of salt deposits and is a truly breathtaking sight to behold.
The Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá has a long and storied history, dating back to the early 1950s when a group of miners decided to create a small chapel inside the tunnels of the Zipaquirá salt mine. As the years went by, the chapel grew in popularity and eventually became the Salt Cathedral we know today.
The Salt Cathedral is divided into several different sections, each with its own unique theme and design. The first section, known as the Crypt, is a small, intimate space where visitors can pray and reflect. The next section is the Way of the Cross, which depicts the story of Jesus’s passion and death through a series of sculptures and carvings.
As you continue through the Salt Cathedral, you’ll come to the Narthex, a large, open area with a stunning altar made entirely out of salt. This is the main gathering place for worshippers and visitors alike, and it’s here that you’ll find the famous salt statue of the Virgin Mary.
In addition to the main areas of the Salt Cathedral, there are also several smaller chapels and shrines scattered throughout the complex. These chapels are dedicated to different saints and are adorned with intricate carvings and artwork.
The Salt Cathedral is truly a one-of-a-kind experience that you won’t find anywhere else in the world.
