Hirakud Dam in Odisha’s Sambalpur district releases season’s flood water today (July 28), informed the officials. The sluice gates of the dam opened after the ceremonial puja. The Hirakud dam authorities opened the gates of the dam due to the substantial rise in the water level of the Hirakud water reservoir after continous rain in the upper catchment areas of Hirakud. Meanwhile, rain is very likely to continue for next three days. The regional centre of the India Meteorological Centre (IMD) has issued yellow warning to 14 districts for heavy rainfall today. These districts include Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Balangir, Nuapada, Sonepur, Jharsuguda, Sundergarh, Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Angul, Deogarh, Boudh and Kandhamal.
