I Learned A Lot More At IIM Than At IIT, Ft. Bhuwan A, Ex Goldman Sachs, IIM A

Bhuwan Atri decided to pursue engineering as he didn’t want to get into a public service career. Cracking the IIT-JEE, Bhuwan made it to IIT Delhi.

Bhuwan’s profile will probably make you feel envious of him. From IIT D, he moved on to write the CAT and got accepted at all the top IIMs.

He chose to get into IIM A. It was here that his interest in finance was solidified. Interning at P&G, Bhuwan realized he certainly wanted to pursue a career in investments, finance, or consulting.

Touching upon the difference between IIMs and IITs, Bhuwan shares how IITs can be more stringent curriculum-wise, but IIMs manage to be more intense. He shares how students at IIMs are very serious about their careers, whereas they are not as focused in IITs.

Straight out of IIM A, Bhuwan was placed in Deloitte. After spending 3 months working in Singapore at Deloitte, Bhuwan came back to India. Having pursued how an internship in Mumbai, Bhuwan had realized he did not like the city. But when he got a chance to work at a startup called eValueserve in Bengaluru, he decided to accept.

From here, Bhuwan moved on to work at Infosys, He met a bunch of interesting engineers and peers who ended up founding companies like Mu Sigma, Mindtree, etc. Bhuwan shares how the markets are always going through cycles, dips, booms, et al.

He shares how companies that start their business right after a dip in the market have a great chance to succeed later when the cycle reaches its peak.

Talking about his career progression, the brand names on his CV and the best places to live and work in, Bhuwan’s humor and easygoing manner make this conversation a must-watch.
