Because his wife Maggie has to stay in the hospital while waiting for her heart transplant, Nick, a construction foreman, is overwhelmed trying to raise his children Isla and Max on his own. So, the man purchases a state-of-the-art android servant whom the daughter names Alice, and her presence greatly reduces the stress in his everyday life. However, due to a system reset, the robot gains the ability to bypass protocols and she becomes sentient. Soon, Alice develops an unhealthy obsession with Nick and she'll stop at nothing to steal the family away from Maggie.
