Star Wars: Underworld was a canceled live-action television series that George Lucas developed in the late 2000s. Set between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, the show aimed to explore the gritty criminal underworld of Coruscant, focusing on smugglers, bounty hunters, and crime syndicates rather than Jedi or Sith. With a darker and more mature tone inspired by The Godfather and Blade Runner, the series would have delved into power struggles, political corruption, and the moral complexities of life under the Empire. Rumored to include younger versions of key figures like Emperor Palpatine and possibly Boba Fett, it also sought to introduce entirely new characters involved in the underworld.

Lucasfilm had reportedly completed over 50 scripts, but the series was ultimately shelved due to budget concerns, as the technology to produce high-quality visual effects for television at the time was deemed too expensive. Despite its cancellation, many ideas from Underworld found their way into later Star Wars projects, influencing The Mandalorian, Rogue One, and Andor, as well as elements in The Clone Wars animated series and the canceled video game Star Wars 1313.
