A stack of Medieval Coins! A Saxon Sceat and a Medieval Brooch! Metal Detecting in the Netherlands!

Описание к видео A stack of Medieval Coins! A Saxon Sceat and a Medieval Brooch! Metal Detecting in the Netherlands!

In this months Metal Detecting video you can see me find some real nice things. I start of with a silver Roman coin, a denarius from Emperor Antoninus Pius dated between 138 and 161 A.D. Those were the Glory Days of the Roman Empire.
Later I found a tiny medieval Coin hoard dated between 1175 and 1225 A.D. These silver coins were stuck to each other and I didn't want to damage them and I have sent them away for a proffesional cleaning. It might take a while, maybe two or three months before I get them back. It are rare local coins from Friesland, and that is the Dutch province where I live and search with the metal Detector.
I also found some nice disc brooches from the medieval period. One of them is an amazing example of a Star Brooch, it has a glass pearl in the center and a stunning green patina. This brooch is from somewhere around the 10th Century.
I also had a Roman Brooch that had the needle folded around the brooch, very strange. I think someone did this a long time ago.Was he mad about the broken brooch? Or was it an offer to the gods?
And I found a tiny piece of a coin that was issued by Charlemagne. This coin was struck at Dorestad somewhere around the year 800 A.D. Dorestad was the most important city of this region. It was located near Wijk bij Duurstede in The Netherlands.
And last but not least, I found a Anglo Saxon Sceat. A Wodan Monster Sceat, this tiny coin is from the eight century.
Thanks for watching! My name is Mark and I live and search with my Minelab Manticore Metal Detector in northern part of the Netherlands.
I try to make a metaldetecting video each month!
