Despite a modest uptick from 1,185 in 2022, the poverty rate looms at an unsettling 39.4%—more than double state levels  .
Most residents identify as White (~95–96%), with small shares of multiracial, Hispanic, and other groups   .
Median household income hovers at $34,688, and per-capita income around $16,700—well below county and state benchmarks  .

A Town Worn by Time
First settled in 1798 and incorporated in 1860, Cloverport once thrived as a vital shipping point and home to bustling railroad machine shops .
But by the 1950s, as railroads waned and factories closed, the town began to crumble—symbolized by the collapse of an abandoned building in the 1990s, and a tragic city hall arson in 2002 .

Still, hope flickered: awarded Kentucky Main Street status in 1996 and Preserve America in 2004, Cloverport rebounded by restoring historic buildings—reviving City Hall, converting the depot into a museum, and lighting its charming streetscape.
