My wife and I visited Chimney Rock State Park on the first day of the Grand Re-opening. The park was awesome and the staff was happy to see the turnout. However, I was not prepared to see the damage that still remained in Chimney Rock Village and Lake Lure. We actually traveled to both places in May of last year. We fell in love with the towns and the people. However, in October of 2024, both places were flooded by Hurricane Helen. I have put some footage together of when we were there last year as compared to what is looks like now. It is heartbreaking and difficult to watch. There is some good news though. The people in Chimney Rock and Lake Lure were extremely welcoming and grateful to see visitors returning to the area. There were dump trucks about every 30 seconds hauling debris out or bringing building materials back in. The people there are resilient and will rebuild. I fully believe this place will look completely different within another year.
