STORYLINE
GERE LAUNCHES HIS TIBET DISPLAY IN SEOUL
American actor Richard Gere helped to launch his own Tibet photo exhibition in Seoul on Wednesday (22 JUNE 2011), after arriving in South Korea Monday afternoon with his wife actress Carey Lowell and their son Homer Gere.
Before the tape cutting ceremony at the Seoul Arts Center, of his photography exhibition titled "Pilgrim," Gere claimed that it was impossible to look at the pictures and "not realize extraordinary suffering by Tibetan people."
He added that he felt very emotional seeing the photographs again because they hold personal memories for him.
According to Seoul Arts Center, the exhibition features a total of 64 photographs of Tibet and India that are taken by Gere, as well as 24 photos of Tibet by 24 leading photographers, including Annie Leibovitz, Steve Meisel and Jerry Uelsmann.
During his visit, Gere will also participate in the temple stay at the Yangsan, South Korea, to experience meditation, chanting and other various Buddhist practices.
Gere and his family visited one of Buddhist temples in Seoul Jogyesa Tuesday morning to meet with Venerable Jaseung, who is the head of Jogye Order.
During the press conference Wednesday, Gere took time to praise the South Korean food he had the day before.
He said the vegetarian meal he had, right next to Jogye Buddhist temple, was one of the best meals he ever had.
