Описание к видео The Ultrasonic Scream | Art Performance | Sydney | 2020

‘The Ultrasonic Scream’ is a performance art installation curated by artist Tiffany Ho Ian Tong.

"The work was inspired by scientific research showing that plants are ‘crying out’ and ‘screaming’ when they were put in drought or physical damage. Sometimes, I wonder if plants share the same feelings as us humans. Their roles and functionality are made apparent to all of us. However, no way are they treated like a living creature that moves, nor do they deserve the equivalent attention and care from us as we have on animals."

‘The Ultrasonic Scream’ is an eight-hour work of performance art by Tiffany Ian Tong Ho in Sydney, Australia. The artist collected different types of fallen leaves on the ground, stitching them together with the red threads as a way to express her feeling of powerlessness and despair for the plants and the natural world. Through a collective of scenes showing the leaves being relentlessly stitched and destructed by the artist, it opens up the thought of the audience to the existence of plants. The two-minute-long emotional performance serves to create a precious space of time for the audience to silently reflect and develop a sense of empathy and consciousness for the plants, and to escape temporarily from the world of distractions.

"The moment when the leaf departs from its host, one could easily have the thought that it is the end of their lives as a plant. It should be swept away from the ground and be discomposed to the soil. Although they might have lost their purpose from that one instance, looking incredibly feeble and powerless, they are still resilient enough to be sewed through without breaking up. They might be screaming for eight hours, and they might still be screaming..."
