It’s our mission that every Steidl book you hold in your hands meets the highest standards of bookmaking: excellent printing and perfectly crafted bookbinding. However, looking back on more than 45 years of books, there are some we’re especially proud of—publications that stand out for their surprising aesthetics or first-class typography; some are even signed by the artists or part of a limited edition.

Beginning on Monday 26 November we’ll be presenting 16 of these “specialties” under Steidl Discoveries on steidl.de. Almost every day you’ll find a new book, and Gerhard Steidl will tell its story and point out what makes it a Steidl Discovery.

Most of these titles were published some years ago, and some are long unavailable in bookshops, highly sought-after on the secondary market. Though these discoveries can be considered vintage books they’re still in perfect shape—thanks to the quality of their “ingredients”: the finest, most durable papers, inks and bookbinding materials.

You won’t be able to find most of the books in this temporary section in your local bookshop, but only at steidl.de—and as always we’ll deliver them to you free of charge. We hope you enjoy discovering these treasures as much as we did.
