Plot Summary
Thirty years after a war has turned the United States into a desolate wasteland, Eli (Denzel Washington) travels westward on foot, guided by an inner voice and protecting the last known copy of the Bible. He possesses exceptional survival and combat skills, which he uses to fend off bandits and cannibals.
His journey leads him to a ramshackle town ruled by Carnegie (Gary Oldman), a ruthless, power-hungry man obsessed with finding a copy of the book to control the populace and build his empire. When Carnegie discovers Eli has the book, he attempts to seize it, leading to a violent confrontation.
Eli, with the help of Solara (Mila Kunis), a young woman who joins his mission, escapes and continues his journey to the West Coast. In a major twist, it's revealed that Eli is blind, having been guided by faith alone for three decades. He dictates the entire New King James Version of the Bible from memory before he dies, ensuring its preservation.
