Описание к видео The Darkest Secret in Vermont's True Crime History

In 1935, the bodies of a woman and two children were discovered in a remote forest near East Middlebury, Vermont.
Nearly a century later, they remain unidentified — making this one of Vermont’s oldest unresolved cold cases.

A woman. Two children.
No names. No missing persons reports. No clear historical record explaining how they arrived there.

This true crime documentary revisits the East Middlebury Does case — a historical cold case involving unidentified victims — not to solve it, but to understand how it was documented, interpreted, and ultimately left unresolved.

For nearly a century, this case has persisted not because it lacked attention, but because it existed at the edge of what investigative systems of the 1930s were able to record, connect, and preserve. At the time, record-keeping was fragmented, inter-state coordination was minimal, and the social disruption of the Great Depression caused countless families to disappear from public record.

Within this context, the absence of missing persons reports did not necessarily indicate the absence of people who were lost — only the limits of documentation.

This documentary carefully reconstructs the original timeline, physical evidence, and historical environment in which the investigation took place. Rather than introducing new theories or assigning responsibility, it focuses on how the case was understood within the practical and institutional constraints of its era.

Decades later, modern forensic analysis revealed that the woman was the biological mother of at least one of the children. This finding does not resolve the case, nor does it identify the victims — but it reframes the structure of the case as the disappearance of a family, rather than unrelated individuals.

This film does not attempt to solve the crime or reinterpret it through hindsight judgment. Instead, it presents the known facts as they were recorded and examines how unidentified bodies and unresolved cases can persist when documentation, continuity, and context are limited by the time in which they occur.
