Title: Incorporating New Knowledge of Plant Water Use Strategies into Land-Atmosphere Models: Novel Challenges and Approaches from Plant to Regional Scales

Speaker: Ashley Matheny, Assistant Professor, Department of Geological Sciences, University of Texas at Austin

Abstract:
While not immediately evident to the untrained eye, vegetation plays a central role in the terrestrial hydrologic cycle. During this lecture, Dr. Matheny will discuss the different ways that various tree species acquire, store, and use water, the impacts of these distinct behaviors on the carbon and water cycles, and the newest approaches to incorporating these processes in land-atmosphere models.
