What happens next?

We’ll discuss your loved one’s history of substance abuse or mental illness, whether or not they’ve ever been to treatment, and how long they stayed. It’s important for me to understand exactly what’s going on with your loved one so that I can provide the best legal advice and course of action.

If we determine that filing a Marchman Act is the best choice for your family, we move on to the next step- that’s the business part. You’ll sign our retainer, take care of the financials, and we’ll be ready to move forward with the filing.

We begin by filing a petition to have your loved one assessed to ensure they meet the requirements of the Marchman Act.

Once that is completed, we petition the court to order treatment services. Once the petition is granted, your loved one will be placed in a treatment facility, generally for a period of up to 90 days.
