Women who have diabetes of any type during pregnancy (whether it be gestational, or type 1, or type 2 diabetes) can expect to be monitored more closely during their pregnancy. You're considered high risk, and for this, it warrants regular monitoring and testing, especially when you get further along. Near the beginning of the 3rd trimester, you can expect to have regular non-stress tests. This is where you come in to either the doctor's office or another clinical setting and they put monitors on your belly that watch the pattern of the baby's heart rate. It also monitors for contractions, and if we see any irregularities in that testing, then further investigation is warranted. You can also expect them to watch your blood sugars closely to watch your symptoms and also to track the size of your baby. If diabetes goes uncontrolled, then it can affect you and the baby, and put you both at risk. If you have more specific questions about your circumstances, talk with your OB provider.
