Since Russia’s illegal annexation of Crimea in 2014, NATO has made enormous strides in enhancing  defenc e and deterrence along its eastern flank.

At three major summits in Wales (2014), Warsaw (2016), and Brussels (2018), NATO and its members have taken steps to rebuild and strengthen its posture, including by establishing an enhanced Forward Presence (eFP) in the Baltic states and Poland, improving the ability to rapidly bring reinforcements to the eastern flank, increasing defence spending, and adapting NATO’s command structure to conduct high-intensity warfare in multiple domains. This session will assess the Alliance’s progress toward implementing these key efforts, outline remaining gaps, and highlight priorities for the way forward.
