Ghostbuster Afterlife : Spengler's Neutrona Wand Mod Episode 3 : Finishing the Neutrona Wand

Hey everybody!! Welcome to an all new build series here at Payne-ted Plastic. For this build we will be modifying a Spengler's Neutrona Wand from Hasbro. This is a prop replica/role play item hasbro released in their Plasma Series in connection with the new movie Ghostbusters Afterlife. The toy is really pretty fun as is with great lights & sound effects, but I want to modify it to look more like the wand from the original 1984 Ghostbusters.

In this episode we will be getting the Spengler's Neutrona Wand all finished up. That means painting the new grips, adding the edge wear, hand painting a few details, & doing a bit of weathering to the entire wand.

I start by masking the bits i don't want to paint & spraying the new handles with a matte black spray paint from Krylon. After the 2 coats of the matte black paint are fully dry I do 2 coats of Krylon matte Crystal Clear. Once all that is dry I remove the masking & move on to the details.

I first tackle the edge wear on the new handles. I use a silver sharpie to try to match the factory edge wear on the rest of the wand. In my opinion, the factory edge wear is a little heavy handed, but i do my best to make the new handles blend in with the rest of the wand. I think they end up matching pretty well & look like they have always been there.

After that I hand paint a few details with Vallejo water based acrylics. The buttons on the 1984 neutrona wand are different colors than what came on this prop. I also use silver acrylic to pick out a few extra details.

Once all that is done & dry I go around the entire wand with black Tamiya Panel Line Accent Color. I focus on the metal knobs to give them a bit of age, but I try to give everything a little more weathering just to tie the new pieces and original pieces of the wand together.
