The Chessie - C&O's Cancelled Luxury Train

The Chesapeake and Ohio Railway wasn't as well known for their passenger services unlike other railroads of their time like the New York Central or Pennsylvania Railroad. However, C&O did have something that most other railroads did not, a cute and iconic kitten mascot named Chessie. Chessie helped promote the newly air conditioned sleeping car equipped trains like the George Washington. With the success of Chessie and an increased interest in passenger services at the hand of Robert R. Young, the "Chessie" train was devised. It was to be a high-end, luxury passenger streamliner using all new equipment built specifically for the train. First there was an order of new streamlined coaches and then an experimental steam turbine locomotive to power the train. However, things didn't exactly go to plan.
