Igal-Igal is the traditional dance of the Bajau people from the east coast of Sabah, Malaysia. I’ve always been mesmerised by their graceful dance moves, colourful costumes, and vibrant music. This dance is performed during social events such as weddings, festivals, and celebrations. The dance in this video is an original Igal dance accompanied by traditional tagunggu' music with lively luvuk-luvuk rhythms.

One intriguing and entertaining aspect is that dancers can collect "tips" (known as Savod in Bajau) from the audience. Spectators can walk up to the dancers and tuck cash between their fingers while they continue performing. Savod is a monetary gift that serves as a gesture of respect to the dancer (pengigal) for their captivating performance, as well as a form of contribution. It's a traditional custom of the Bajau people of Sabah’s East Coast during celebratory events.

It’s fun to watch them dance with money in hand! Occasionally, the wedding couple also joins in the merrymaking, adding to the joyous atmosphere.
