Owner communication is the most crucial part of dog training, especially when there are multiple owners involved. Everyone needs to be on the same page, putting in the same work and consistency as each other, or it just won’t work. This mother daughter team was bringing into the dog training unresolved issues that were affecting the training So I called them out on it I want owners to win and I know how. That was working against them . Dogs are smart, and they know how to take advantage of opportunity—like an owner who doesn’t follow through with training protocol for instance. The more consistent you can be with your dog the clearer the message you are trying to convey to them will be. If you don’t allow your dog to free roam the house or whine while it’s in the kennel but your spouse, mother, brother, sister, etc does... what do you think the dog will do? It will continually try to break command or whine in the kennel because it knows 5 times out of 10 it is allowed without consequence. Then imagine, if you are with the dog correcting it for these behaviors, how mucky the waters can get. Lack of consistency creates a confusing situation for a dog. This is why family members must be on the same page. They must be able to keep their differences aside and focus on what’s best for the dog. This is actually extremely common in our world, and that’s why human communication skills are key. The dog training is simple, but making sure everyone understands and truly wants to do the work is so much more important.
