Meet Effie Ward, a junior long distance runner for the Harris County High School track & field and cross country teams in Hamilton, GA. Effie had been running for years, when at 9 years old she was diagnosed with scoliosis, and three weeks later she needed Chiari decompression brain surgery. She had to wear a back brace for 22 hours a day, unless she was running/active in a sport, which helped build her core strength. As a sophomore, Effie won the 2024 GHSA 5A track & field state championship in 1600m and 3200m. This is her story...
