Welcome to Safety Bay — the metro mecca. If you’re anywhere near Perth and chasing flatwater, this is the spot. Home to The Pond, Penguin Island, and a whole lot of seabreeze worshippers, Safety Bay is where WA’s kite scene sharpened its teeth.

The SW seabreeze rolls in strong and consistent, blowing cross to cross-onshore across a shallow, sandy-bottomed bay. The Pond is butter flat on all tides and often dotted with instructors, foilers, and freestylers laying it down between the markers. Outside the reef, the water opens up with some rolling swell for downwinders or carving lines toward Penguin Island.

Best on mid to high tide, though it’s ridable all day. Low tide gets weedy and shallow in places, but there’s always somewhere to launch. Easy parking, grassy rigging zones, and decent facilities make it ideal for all levels — especially learners chasing that WA-style progression.

It gets busy, but the vibe’s good. Respect the locals, give space, and if it’s your first time at The Pond, don’t hog the butter.
