The Lennox has struggled to keep up on hotter days recently, and it’s gotten worse. Today I opened up the evaporator to find ice starting to form on the 90° macaroni elbows. When the refrigerant leaks, the pressure in the system drops, causing the temperature to drop. The low side sits at around 40°F, and 32°F is the freezing point, so it doesn’t have to leak much to freeze. Last time I gauged up to the Lennox, the Evap was 30°F, and I’m sure it’s even lower now. We POSSIBLY will replace the system before the end of the year, if not next year.
