Today we're pitting the Hublot Big Bang vs Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore - two titans of the sports watch genre. The Big Bang is often maligned for its similarity to the Offshore, but how similar are they and does it stand a chance against it?

On the face of it, a Hublot vs AP comparison might seem like an easy win for the Offshore 26170ST.OO.1000ST.01, but these two specific models, on the one hand, are more different than the Big Bang 301.SB.131.RX gets credit for, and also have more in common than you'd think considering the Offshore Chronograph traces its roots back to the original sports watch of 1972.

Audemars Piguet released the Offshore in 1993 and it's often described as a Roya Oak on steroids - with all dimensions pumped up to form the genesis of the big watch trend. Meanwhile, the 2005 Hublot Big Bang - clearly inspired by the Offshore - took AP's blueprint and brought the notion of oversized, multi-material watches to another stratosphere.
