Brevard High School "Dream Season" winning all 14 games and the 1982 North Carolina State 3-A Football Championship. Filmed and produced by David Calhoun, Sr. in 1982 and re-edited in 2012 to add additional content and to take advantage of video editing software that was not available when the original video was produced. In their ninth game of the season, the undefeated Devils took on the East Henderson Eagles before a huge homecoming crowd. Kevin Whitmire got the offense going on their second possession with a 44 yard gallop to the Eagles 9 yard line. Mitch Wike then leaped high in the end zone to bring in a Kenny Edwards pass and Marion Crite added the extra point giving the Devils a 7-0 lead with 5:39 left in the first quarter. Brevard's tallied again in the second quarter when Kevin Whitmire concluded a 65 yard eight-play drive with a two yard scoring run. Crite added the extra point for a 14-0 Devil lead. After an exchange of possessions, the Eagles returned a punt to the Blue Devil 24 yard line. East was unable to move against the Devil defense, but managed a 38 yard field goal to cut the Brevard lead to 14-3 with 2:00 left in the half. Crite returned the ensuing kickoff to his own 35 and Randy Lytle took off on a 46 yard end-around run to the Eagle's 19. Lytle then moved the ball to the 5 on a pass from Edwards. Joey Mehalic then hauled in an Edward's aerial for the touchdown and Crite again added the extra point giving Brevard a 21-3 halftime lead. Late in the 3rd quarter, the Eagles sustained a drive from their own 38 down the Blue Devil 9 before Brevard's defense stopped them. The Devil offense sputtered and when Edwards dropped back into the end zone to pass, the ball popped out and East recovered for a touchdown. They added an extra point cutting the Blue Devil lead to 21-10. The Eagles surprised the Devils with an on-sides kick which they recovered at the Brevard 33. The Devils took the ball back three plays later when David Bumgarner recovered an Eagle fumble at the 27. On the first play of the 4th quarter, Randy Lytle took a handoff from Edwards and broke three tackles on a beautiful 62 yard touchdown run. Crite connected on his 4th extra point of the night bringing the score to 28-10 with 11:45 left in the game. The remainder of the game was played between the 30s with neither team managing a threat. The Devils dominated the stats rushing for 259 yards while holding East to 27 yards. Brevard nailed down the Big MAC Championship with the win.
