𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝘁𝘂𝗸𝗸𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗮𝗶 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗿 𝗧𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲 is a temple of the Chettiar community in Penang. Its full name is Nattukkottai Chettiar Thendayuthapani Temple, also called the Arulmigu Thandayuthapani Temple. It was originally located on Waterfall Road (now known as Jalan Kebun Bunga), though today the road in front of it is Jalan Kebun Bunga. It was founded around 1854, after the Chettiar community in Penang Street bought the piece of land to build the chettiar quarters.
The temple is dedicated to Lord Thendayuthapani, also known as Lord Murugan. One of the unique features of the temple is the hundreds of religious themed paintings from India lined on the recesses of the roof.
In light of the upcoming Thaipusam festival, we invite you to come admire and explore this Lord Murugan temple that also provides understanding on the journey of the Hindu Chettiars to Malaysia.
