But now there’s a new procedure called TIF or Transoral Incisionless Fundoplication. “With the TIF procedure, we do it endoscopically without surgery. It takes 30 minutes. The patient goes home the same day or the next day,” said Dr. Salami.

Since this procedure is less invasive and done through the mouth, the patient’s recovery time is much faster. “Compared to the same surgical procedure for the same indication, it has the same efficiency with fewer side effects,” said Dr. Salami. The procedure has been increasing in popularity over the last 5 years, allowing people to get back to their normal life. “In my case, 100% of them are off acid medication within 4 weeks of the procedure with no symptoms at all.”
