On June 13, 2022 at 12:00 Belgian time, the European Space Agency (ESA) will announce and publish the newest catalogue of our Milky Way galaxy. This catalogue, made from the third release of the Gaia satellite data, will be the most accurate and complete one ever made. The Gaia satellite has been charting the sky since 2014 and has already made an enormous impact on astronomical research, but its newest data release outshines the previous ones with the detailed characterisation of the stars and other objects it observed.
Belgian institutes, which include the Royal Observatory of Belgium (ORB-KSB), the Université de Liège (ULiège), the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB), and the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (KULeuven) provided an important contribution to this data release. They invite you to attend a press conference at the Planetarium of Brussels on the day this huge wealth of information will be made public.
