Capt. Arye Sharuz Shalicar addresses the world in Persian one year after the end of Operation Cast Lead. Despite Israel's complete withdrawal from Gaza and the Egyptian brokered ceasefire, Hamas continued to launch attacks at Israeli civilians. After Hamas put over a million Israeli civilians under the threat of rocket attack, Israel had no choice but to launch a campaign on December 28th, 2009.
Faced with an enemy that purposefully put its own population in harms way, the IDF made every effort to protect the lives of innocent civilians. Having sent thousands of SMSs, dropping over a million flyers, and broadcasting over Palestinians TV and radio waves, the IDF did everything it could to limit the amount of civilian casualties despite Hamas' strategy.
Since the end of Cast Lead their has been a 90% decrease in rocket fire at Israel. This attests to the success of the operation in its aims to reestablish quiet in Israel's home front. One year since the operation, children in the south of Israel are able to go to school without having to worry about where the nearest bomb shelter is located, while businesses have returned to being fully operational.
