How to climb Via Finlandia (VI+) in the Italian Dolomites

Описание к видео How to climb Via Finlandia (VI+) in the Italian Dolomites

If you are looking for your next multipitch mixed trad rock climbing adventure in the Italian Dolomites, then you are watching the right video. Because I this rock climbing video I will introduce you to the classical Via Finlandia at Cinque Torri.

Via Finlandia at VI+ is a classic rock climbing multipitch route up Torre Grande at Cinque Torri, combining a demanding corner with technical face climbing on small pockets and crimps. Via Finlandia is five pitches and 140 meters long, and even though it is categorized as trad climbing, all belay stations are bolted, and there are several pegs, bolts and in-situ gear along the way, so bringing a light rack of cams is enough.

You will find the start of Via Finlandia at Cinque Torri in the Italian Dolomites below the prominent corner that makes out the second pitch.

The first pitch is an easy grade IV, 10 meters pitch. Climb a short crack then move easily left to the base of the corner.

The second pitch of Via Finlandia is 35 meters at grade VI. You follow the well-protected corner for about 30 meters until you traverse left to the belay for the third pitch.

The third pitch is grade VI+ and around 20 meters. The pitch traverses to the right on pockets, crimps and a few jugs, and ends at a quite awkward belay. The third pitch is also the crux pitch and the face climbing is quite technical.

The fourth pitch is grade VI- for about 30m. You climb a crack then a traverse to another crack before reaching a small ledge from where you belay the fifth and last pitch.

The final pitch of Via Finlandia is graded V+ and about 30m. You continue in the same line onto a slab and then climb through a short overhanging section to reach a scree ledge at the summit.

In terms of rock climbing gear we brought to 12 quickdraws, two 60 meters half ropes and a light rack of cams. We consumed the cams, especially on the second pitch, but further up we more or less just clipped the existing protection with quickdraws.
