On a day that followed disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein being found guilty of rape at his New York trial, Maria Grazia Chiuri put up enormous neon signs shouting 'Consent' and 'Patriarchy Kills Love' as the backdrop to her AW20 show, which felt like perfect timing. The signs were created in collaboration with the feminist art collective Claire Fontaine, while the name of the show 'I say I' is from an exhibition on Italian female artists opening in Rome next month. Although the setting was loud about its point, the collection had a more subtle approach, with a nod to the Seventies, a reconsideration of the decade which took place after the designer looked back at photos from her youth. We saw sportswear touches, checks, headscarves, lace-up boots and fishnet tights, as well as sheer, embellished dresses and suits that were paired with ties.
