The Quaker Parrot is getting really good at targeting around his cage! Anywhere I point with my target stick, he comes over! This is super useful.

If I need to remove a food or water bowl, I can target the Quaker Parrot to the opposite end of the cage so that he's not standing on the bowl. Or, if I need to change out a toy, I can target him away so he doesn't bite me while I'm reaching for it. Targeting is also a lot of fun and great exercise.

While we practice targeting around the cage, we are most importantly building trust! The parakeet feels safe around me and has a purpose. We exercise this clear purpose together and build a stronger form of cooperation and understanding in preparation for taking him safely out of the cage.
