Nic Jones - Petronella (Live In Amsterdam 1981)

This is quite possibly the only high-quality recording in existence of Nic Jones' virtuoso instrumental Petronella, recorded live in Amsterdam in March 1981.

The story is that Nic Jones performed in an Amsterdam venue co-run by someone I knew. So I brought an Akai reel to reel recorder to the place, and asked Nic Jones whether he was OK with me recording his concert. He agreed and I plugged directly into the PA desk and recorded his entire first set. Sadly, Jones suffered a horrendous car accident in February 1982, which terminated his career, and for this reason he never had the opportunity to record this track.

I still have my recording of Jones' first set in Amsterdam in 1981, and the music is fantastic, while the sound quality is entirely acceptable, even by today's standards. Jones' amazing performance of Petronella is a highlight, and here it is, for you to enjoy!

I fiddled a bit with compression and limiting to bring the volume up for modern ears, but didn't touch the tape crackles and hiss, which may one day be removed if this ever gets an official release.
