Extracts from an interview with Eline Gilbert Scott who worked for the Norwegian Resistance during WW2.
Eline was a young woman living in Norway with her mother during the German occupation. She describes how she was introduced to Milorg, the main Norwegian Resistance movement, and that a secret compartment was built in the wall of her house to hide a radio. Her job was to listen to and decipher coded messages transmitted between Norway and London and to pass on the information.
Eline was forced to go into hiding after another Resistance member disclosed her address while being tortured by the Gestapo. Eline's mother was arrested to try and lure Eline into giving herself up, but, knowing that her mother a strong woman, she instead went into hiding. Milorg arranged for Eline to travel to the safety of Sweden where she remained in exile until Norway was liberated.

After Eline returned to Norway, she met her husband-to-be Richard Gilbert Scott, son of Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, at a party. He was serving with 1st Airborne Squadron, Royal Engineers. They married in Oslo in 1946. Post-war, they lived in London and had four children.
