The Power of Moments: Why Certain Experiences Have Extraordinary Impact by Chip Heath and Dan Heath

The dynamite brother duo Chip and Dan Heath are BACK with a book about enriching lives through the creation of moments. This bad boy has four main sections that follow their EPIC (elevation, pride, insight and connection) framework to executing a 'perfect moment'.

The book has a great structure that is delivered with a casual tone and the way the examples are described make the ideas and tactics sticky. Chip and Dan's main idea is to be pro-active and prepared to make a positive impact on someone's life along with your own. Because of this, I would ultimately place 'The Power Of Moments' in the persuasion category beside other books like When: The Scientific Secrets of Perfect Timing by Daniel Pink and influence: The Psychology of Persuasion by the godfather of them all, Robert Cialdini.

The strengths of this book are the easy to remember framework (EPIC) and the interesting examples (eg. Popsicle Hotline). What I wish there was more of are applicable examples to certain professions or life situations. There's a lot of great theory here but it seems as though the examples skip from industry to industry. I understand it would be difficult for them to create direct walk-throughs for event planners vs customer service folks but perhaps there is enough literature for follow ups?

All in all, I would say this is a borrow for me. This still makes for some great reference material but I don't see myself drawing upon it too often unlike their other hits, Switch and Made To Stick.
