Video shows how to make a Radiant "Sand Storage" Air & Room Heater! DIY Sand Battery Air Heater. Works on-grid or off-grid (house/home/vehicle/tent etc.). unit absorbs, stores and radiates heat for many hours. Designed with a large surface area for lots of radiant heat. only 3 things needed to make it! (a large foil pan, a 12v high-temp silicone heating pad and some sand). i used approx. 25 to 35 pounds of sand, but the pan will hold more if desired. (a 50 Lb. bag of sand is cheap) only 5 to 7 dollars at the home stores. 5 minute set-up time. runs maintenance free.

🔴 Heating: it just takes a couple of hours to heat up and then the unit radiates heat for hours. you basically just "set it and forget it". it never overheats. the heated sand stays around 120-150F (50-66C). (same as the output temp of a home furnace).

🟢 Off-Grid power options: unit can be directly hooked to 12v "deep cycle" or lithium battery or to 12v solar panels if desired. (AC/DC option shown).

📌 Note that the silicone heating pad is specifically designed to be used in a vehicle (plugged into the 12v power socket), so this unit would be a great for heating the cabin of a car, truck, or van. it should also work well on battery-based systems like jackary power stations (or similar).

😎 Using it on solar panels: the amp draw of pad is 7-8 amps so two 12v 100w solar panels will give you more than enough amps to run the pad at full power. all you have to do is plug it directly into the solar panels and let the "sand battery" charge up throughout the day. then at night it will radiate heat for hours. basically, any time you have sun it will 'charge up' the sand. all you do is set it up once and it should run maintenance free for years.

the 3 items
Large Foil Pan $4 (walmart etc.)
50 lb. bag of sand $5 to $7 (home depot/lowes etc.)
Silicone Heating Mat ($12 to $40). sold on amazon. *price depends on size, power and heat output. i paid $20. here's the link to the one i used https://tinyurl.com/45rkehje
